Shafter Lions Club winds up its annual birthday calendar promotion led by president Roland Grisham. Members urge contacts to list birthdays and anniversaries while proceeds support sight saving programs and club activities including the Blue Bird group Junior Rifle Club and Christmas Basket.
Three incumbents were re elected at the Volunteer Fire Department annual installation held Saturday at Veterans Memorial Hall. Robert Irwin became chief, Cliff Ratzlaff assistant chief, Earl Millard secretary treasurer, and Ralph Baehr James Holt named training captains. Auxiliary officers Mrs James Holt chairwoman Mrs Don Burton co chairwoman and Mrs Cliff Ratzlaff secretary treasurer. Master of ceremonies was Albert Finkbeiner with presentation by Councilman Forrest Long fire commissioner. Guests included Forrest Long Al Finkbeiner and Jack Jonzen.
The Shafter Public Utility District schedules a 1 p.m. hearing on February 11 in City Hall Council Chambers to hear objections to the proposed entry of the Reiker tract into the district. Directors, in session, are also seeking bids for material to be used in the annexation. If no blocking objections arise, the annexation proceeds.
