Garces Rams Defeat Shafter Frosh Soph in League Opener
On Tuesday January 14 Garces High School girls frosh soph basketball defeated Shafter 29 to 24 in league play. Shafter led 9-8 after one quarter and 13-11 at halftime with Noe Livingston scoring 12 for Shafter while Veronica Gonzales led Garces with six baskets in the late rally securing the 29-24 victory. Beatrice Gomez Stephanie Cortez Stephanie Tracey and Andrea Plaza added points for Shafter.

Shafter youths edge Wasco in late comeback win
In a Saturday morning SAPD basketball clash Shafter seventh grade girls rallied to a 20 19 victory as Mindy Fowler scored on a last second rebound and winner Catrina Heard led scorers with 14 points. Angel Canez topped the seventh grade boys at 14 in a 30 28 win while eighth grade girls fell 33 7 to Wasco. Shafter hosts Delano Porterville Feb 1 at 9 am.

Final workshop for Kern coaches begins late January
The Kern High School District will run the final workshop for walk on and volunteer coaches for the 1985 86 year on January 28 29 30 and February 4 5 6 at North High School cafeteria from 7 10 p m Aubrey Allen former high school coach and athletic director will instruct CPR and Red Cross training February 11 12 for 12.00 CPR and first aid cards are available as state requirements attendees need approval from a principal or athletic director at a Kern district school
