Butterfly Trees Spark Pacific Grove Conversation
Butterflies arriving from Canada, the Aleutians, and Alaska swarmed to the Monterey Peninsula site near Pacific Grove. Mrs. M. M. Fenderson and companions noted butterflies ride air currents to the coast, where they hibernate northward in spring. Disturbing a tree where they rest reportedly discourages that tree’s future return by the butterflies.
