Sergeant John H. Holland 21 a noted Minter Field boxer died in a Mojave hospital after being struck by a car on Highway 6 north of Mojave. Holland stepped from between two parked trucks into the path of an unidentified motorist while awaiting a wrecker. he had previously appeared in boxing events and was slated for Gloves Francisco before his earlier accident.

Chute Saves Life of Flyer At Minter Field
Aviation Cadet Aub in I. Riley Jr. of Minter Field escaped with minor scratches after his plane crashed and burned about four and a half miles northwest of Shafter shortly after 10 this morning. The aircraft was a total loss and a board of inquiry at Minter Field investigates the cause. Nearby residents witnessed the event and praised the cadet's coolness.
