Captain Brown Legion Speaker at Leslie Post Meeting

Captain Dan Brown, commanding officer of the local German War Prisoners Camp, spoke briefly and answered questions at the Leslie L. Robinson Post 213 American Legion meeting. Brown, a World War I veteran, is eligible for membership and has accepted the invitation to join. Four World War II veterans—Ernie Reich, Bill McClain, G. A. Dutch Wittmayer, and Al Cheser—recently joined Shafter Post. The Post plans a January 29 smoker inviting all local discharged servicemen, with Clyde Bell, Pete Bender, Johnny Janzen, and Joe Henderson directing arrangements.

Farm Officials Forecast Butter Shortage and New Flax Incentive

War Food Administration officials predict reduced civilian butter supplies in February and March as producers must reserve part of monthly output for government sale starting February 1. An incentive of five dollars per acre will be paid for flax grown in 1945 once state county and farm goals are met, with local handling by the County Triple-A Committee. The flax program is separate from the support price plan. The WFA also revises the 1945 egg production goal to 4.35 billion dozen, up from 3.92 billion, reflecting state discussions and new 1945 needs.
