Intelligent Mail set to be fully operational by 2009
The U S Postal Service unveiled Intelligent Mail a single standardized barcode system for letters flats and containers with real time tracking from arrival to delivery. It offers automated verification address quality pre sorting and postage and provides real time feedback to mailers aiding planning promotions and payments while enabling electronic postage and around the clock account access. Potters says the system will be fully adopted by 2009 with pilot results showing high scan rates and reduced manual processing.
