Weingart-Kern Community Foundation grant cycle opens
The Kern Community Foundation and the Weingart Foundation of Southern California announce the final grant cycle. About 77,500 remains in the Weingart fund to be distributed by April 2007 for Kern County residents. Qualified 501(c)(3) groups may apply per guidelines on the foundation website or by calling 325-5346.

Social Security Benefit Statements Arrive This Month
Social Security benefit statements or Form SSA-1099 will be mailed this month to beneficiaries who received benefits in 2006. They show annual benefits paid and help determine if benefits are taxable, with taxes due when income exceeds 25000 for individuals or 32000 for couples. A replacement copy can be requested online. SSI recipients do not receive a 1099.

Senior Center Lunch Reservations and Weekly Menu
Reservations are required one day in advance for lunch served at 11 45 a m at Shafter and Wasco. Suggested donations are 150 for seniors and spouses, 350 for others. Walk ins served after those with reservations. Menu includes Lima beans with ham on Jan 17 and more through Jan 24 with juice milk and desserts.
