California Refill Value Boost Lifts Beverage Recycling
California's six month report shows beverage container recycling rose six points to 7 percent in January to June 2007, with Californians recycling billions of cans and bottles. The increase in refund value reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to removing 230,000 cars for a year and saved an estimated 2.5 million barrels of oil. California’s Department of Conservation notes EPA data for energy and emissions, while Governor Schwarzenegger praises daily recycling.
