Incumbent assemblyman Florez urged voters to back the home team in a tight race in the valley. He framed education, growth, tax relief, jobs, water and agriculture as top priorities while criticizing negative ads and stressing conservative Democrat values.
A conservative Democrat seeking the assembly seat frames himself in the tradition of Sen Jim Costa and Rep Canning who were born and raised in the valley and pursued regional interests. His mother Fran Florez, Shafter City Council member, backs his campaign as does a campaign team planning sites in every district city. The piece covers Florez's background Harvard Business School, recent High Speed Rail Authority appointment, fundraising details, and opponents trading barbs over campaign tactics.
Chief Stotesbury expresses gratitude for support and teamwork in Shafter as he recalls more than two decades in policing, including years as a lieutenant with the Escondido Police Department.
