Emma Lee Combs 91 Early Shafter Resident Dies
Mrs Emma Lee Combs aged 91 died June 8 at a Bakersfield rest home. Funeral services were held at Doughty Calhoun O Meara Funeral Home with a later service in Whittier. Survivors include son Jesse Combs of Maple and another son Robert of Long Beach, daughters Ruth Coleman, L McDaniels, and 13 grandchildren. The Kern county resident lived in the area 28 years and spent time with a Bakersfield daughter and in Shafter before moving in with her son.

Crash Victim Returns Home After Collision
Mitchell, a crash victim, returned home for several weeks of bed rest following an automobile collision Wednesday night of last week. He was a passenger in a car driven by Wayne Patterson. Frances Mary Morressette allegedly operated the other vehicle. Other Patterson passengers suffered minor injuries. Morressette’s rider, Jesse Elmer Cummings, also had minor injuries.

Grand opening planned for the new Union Station at 701 Central Valley Highway to be run by Jack Maxberry a Shafter petroleum dealer. The four pump station built by Dalke Brothers sits beside the post office with prizes offered. Maxberry resident since 1951 previously operated a smaller Union Station on the same highway.
