Rent Control Ordinance For Shafter Housing
The City of Shafter adopts a temporary Rent Control Ordinance to curb excessive rents during wartime. A three member Rent Control Board will hear applications, set precedents, and enforce penalties up to 500 dollars and jail time for violations. Civil remedies allow recovery of unused bene fits if tenancy ends and excess rents are charged. The ordinance aligns with state and federal laws, expires after the emergency ends, and was approved January 10 by the City Council.
