Train Car Accident Kills Mrs Satterfield and Child
Mrs Wanda Satterfield and her infant daughter Carla Jean died in a train car crash at a crossing near Poplar Avenue on the Central Valley Highway. The Satterfield vehicle was struck broadside by a Santa Fe Golden State train, overturning into a trackside pit. Burial was tentatively set for January 9 in Bradford, Arkansas, with services through Greenlawn Funeral Home. Survivors include a husband and son, her mother Violet Piper, and siblings listed from Bradford and nearby areas.

Bird's Nest Sparks Rio Bravo School Fire Alarm
A bird's nest caused a fire alarm at Rio Bravo school last Wednesday morning. A nest in a gas heater suspended from the ceiling in the bus garage ignited the nest and emergency crews were dispatched from Shafter Wasco and Greenfield. School employees extinguished the blaze quickly.

Fire Code Ordinance Published
In this issue of the Shafter Press the city prints Ordinance No. 159 adopting the Fire Prevention Code from the National Board of Fire Underwriters, 1960 edition. It creates a Bureau of Fire Prevention led by the Chief and fire department, with annual reports to the City Clerk and power to modify provisions under written applications while preserving the code spirit. Appeals go to the City Council.

Word was received Sunday of the death of George Ohanneson of Eagle Rock brother of Peter il Ohanneson Al he had not well of the family of seven and two sisters. He had lived in Los Angeles where he had been a practing attorney for a number of years and was retired. He was active in civic and com munity affairs and a member of the Kiwanis club. Survivors include his wife Rose a son and daughter and brothers Phil and Peter of Shafter Dr Frank Ohanneson Carlsbad Calif Dr John Ohanneson Alameda and sisters Lucy White of Oakland and Mary Donabedian of San Francisco all of whom attended the services which were held in Eagle Rock on Tuesday.

Fire trucks respond to party heat misstep
Youths at a high school party were shaken when two fire engines from Shafter and two from Wasco arrived after a diesel fuel warmed the venue. The alarm was recorded at 9:47 p.m.
