Gunfight case leads to fine and suspended sentence
Shafter man Jack C Hubbard was fined 150 dollars and given a 90 day suspended jail term after a morning gunfight on Poso Street. Police said the revolver discharged during an altercation with his brother, though no one was injured. Hubbard was later fined by Judge E K Grant for disturbing the peace and firing within city limits.

Funeral Services Held on Wed for W. W. McWilliams
Walter McWilliams aged about 58 or 59 died in Shafter after seven years there and fourteen years in California. The service was conducted by Rev. Paul E. Babbitt at Union Congregational Church in Shafter with burial at the local cemetery. He was born in Elizabeth Indiana and previously lived in Crag Colorado where he owned several sheep ranches and belonged to the Lions club and the Odd Fellows lodge.

Constable Blake Witcher reports three teenagers breached a vacant farm house on Gus Tisch property west of Lerdo, then attempted to steal a battery from a B L Howze cotton picker. Two youths 18 and 16 and 17 admitted involvement, wrecked plate glass, and fled. tire tracks linked the car to the crime. They were jailed.

The California state division of highways awarded a $78 648 50 contract to the Phoenix Construction Company of Bakersfield for grading and surfacing a two mile portion of Central Valley highway between Shafter and Wasco.
