L Johnson led the field in October with 50.59 eggs per bird in the third California official random sample egg test in Modesto. Harvey E. Taylor’s White Leghorn Wyandotte Cross placed second with 57.09 eggs and 1.050 net per bird. Rippey-Miller’s New Hampshire White Leghorn Rhode Island Red Incross finished third with 48.36 eggs and .894 net per bird.

PGE to Build New McCall Substation and Transmission Line
Pacific Gas and Electric plans a new McCall substation northwest of Selma and 66 miles of 220000 volt transmission line from Panoche to the new site. The $3.422 million project, overseen by H H Courtright, will include 120000 KVA capacity, transformers, a 48000 KVA condenser, air switches, oil circuit breakers, and temporary operation next summer. Construction starts immediately by the general construction department.

New 220000 Volt Transmission Line Planned With Substation
Plans detail a late next year construction of a 220000 volt line from Panoche substation to a new facility 20 miles southwest of Mendota and onward toward a new substation. The project includes concrete tower footings and a short 110000 volt line to connect the substation with the existing 110000 volt line from Olsst station to Corcoran. The substation will link with Buttonwillow to Contra Costa and Moss Landing steam plants and with Kern, Mokelumne River hydro facilities, expanding circuits to Fresno, Sanger, Selma, Kingsburg, and Corcoran to reduce outages.
