A local American Legion Auxiliary unit hosts an apron bazaar and food sale starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Sam Lachenmaier’s Real Estate office at 315 Central Avenue between Safeway and Sprouse-Reitz. Van Ewert presented slides from his Europe trip last summer and spoke about his experiences as History Department chair at Bakersfield College. The report notes a Taft event on Saturday night, Feb.
A Kiwanis sponsored boys basketball tournament for Richland Maple Lerdo and Rio Bravo schools will be held at the high school gym tomorrow afternoon starting at 1.00. About 120 players from eight B teams and seven A teams compete in dual courts with elimination rounds leading to full court finals. Prizes include gold for heavyweight winners and silver for light weights.
On Tuesday Shaf ter Rotarians heard Arabia Walter Emerick describe his experiences teaching American farming methods in Arabia. He showed photographs and discussed country customs and agricultural progress, introduced by Rotary president Al Ingraham. Guests included Art Hill, Forrest Warren, Delano, Melvin McConnell, Tule Lake, Alan Bartel, Waldo Unruh, Wasco, Ernest Hofman, Verne Summers, and Bates Dewey celebrated becoming a grandfather with Verne Summers as his guest.
Miss Lydia Fast, who suffered a heart ailment after the flu, is reported much better and is at the Ezra Schneider home.
Kern County lays out plans for Rededication Week to mark the Freedom Train arrival in Bakersfield with March 5 to 10 events. Towns including Arvin Delano Taft Shafter Wasco Tehachapi Mojave McFarland Ridgecrest Inyokern and Buttonwillow join in with concerts, a Chinese group performance, a patriotic drama The Tunnel broadcast by KAFY and a closing ceremony led by Major Jake Van derlie and the county union high school band.

A big organizational meeting to chart plans for the Shafter Baseball team will be held next Tuesday night at 7 30 p.m. in the Richland oe on Shafter Avenue. The Kern County Baseball league includes Bakersfield Taft Oildale Delano Wasco and more with Wasco winning the title both years. The meeting will address practice dates schedule locations funds uniforms and job assignments with public attendance invited.
Shafter High School offers free smallpox vaccinations next week announced by Mrs. Ruth Rhoads. Parents are urged to sign and return the notice sent home as renewed boosters are needed every five years to protect students.
Arrangements are completed for a silver tea hosted by Job's Daughters at Mrs. Milton Lohr's Wasco Shafter Road home Sunday from 3 to 4. Patsy heads the arranging committee with Mrs. H W Irvin Barrand and Fry assisting. Invitations went to Eastern Star and Masonic members. the public is invited. A musical program will be presented.
Tuesday evening dessert bridge gathered at a Mrs residence. Attendees included Mesdames Byron Hansen, Fred Ruhl man, E Stringham, T P Rootes, Roscamp, and P C.
A birthday dinner honoring all Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Shafter was held last night at the Richland Cafeteria. Local scouts from troops 44 and 53 joined in the event, recognizing their service and friendship within the movement.
Postmaster George E. Guenther announced that Rural Route No. 1 from Shafter will extend about nine miles starting March 1, adding roughly 60 new families to the route. The expansion covers the west area to Buttonwillow and near Smith Garrison Gin and the power plant as growth continues.
Shafter High School G A A will hold a combined mother daughter and awards banquet on Wednesday March 3 in the Richland School Cafeteria at six. Opal Evans president says all G A A members may attend with a mother or guest and alumnae faculty wives invited. The Olympic Games themed event features per period table decorations songs and performances with awards including pins for five senior girls. Doreen Farr Ferrelene Parker Patean and Opal Evans will present and explain activities and awards with a farewell by Evans.
The week records two 15 year old boys confessing to petty theft of a small radio from a local store. Weldon Woodard, 33, was booked for battery and released on bail awaiting local justice court trial. William Jamerson, 49, jailed for drunk driving and no license, fined 350 dollars with a suspended sentence. Junior Oliver, 27, arrested for intoxication and to be tried tomorrow.
Wasco Union High School Vocal Department presents The Belle of Bagdad on Saturday evening March 6 in the High School auditorium at 8 15 p m. Geoffrey F Morgan and Frederick G Johnson wrote the operetta and Larry G Stalin directs.
