City Hall site plan rescinded amid tough times in Shafter
Shafter Community Development Agency reversed its earlier 3 to 1 vote to buy a one acre parcel at North Shafter Avenue and Santa Fe Way for a City Hall and police facility. The $250000 property would have housed parking and a 25000 square foot hall. plans to close Poso Avenue were abandoned as council members cited economic pressures and public opinion. Don Christiansen owned the land. Don Zachary was absent while Vern Nash dissented. The old courthouse on Pacific Avenue will be renovated for City Hall, with occupancy planned within months.
