AARP Chapter 2809 Celebrates 10th Anniversary in Shafter
The AARP Chapter 2809 marked its 10th anniversary at the February 16 gathering in the W C Walker Senior Center. State Director Lela Findley from Bakersfield praised the chapter as well run. Abe Isaac invited Bill Walker to recount the chapter’s 1976 origins and charter history, noting early officers and the 1977 charter. The group, serving Shafter and Wasco seniors, began discounts with 17 merchants in each town and grew through active volunteering and tours. The celebration concluded with cake and refreshments, ahead of the next potluck March 16 at the Veterans Hall.
