Shafter Chief Kaplan resigns effective March 2 1961
Shafter Police Chief Gene Kaplan submitted his resignation to the City Council on February 24, citing a desire to leave after more than two years in office. He noted crime down and the department self-maintaining, but cited enduring media scrutiny and community tensions as factors. The letter, signed with Peggy Kaplan, expresses thanks and asks for future references.
