Rotarian Goehring aids polio drive in India
Blake Goehring, a Shafter resident and Rotarian, spent two weeks in India as part of Rotary International's End Polio Now campaign. In Maradaba, 26 volunteers conducted National Immunization Day activities with 3,500 booths, immunizing over 900,000 children under five in a single day. The effort combines Rotary, World Health Organization, Unicef and The Gates Foundation funding. He notes private groups drive progress in the final push to eradicate polio, despite limited government backing.
