Dust Storm Triggers I-5 Pileups Shuts 20 Miles South of Buttonwillow
A fierce dust storm halted 20 miles of Interstate 5 for nearly five hours as Caltrans and CHP responded to multiple crashes. About 30 cars were involved in two collisions 200 yards apart near Buttonwillow, with seven people transported to Kern Medical Center for minor to moderate injuries. Additional dust-related incidents occurred south of Highway 43 and near Stockdale Highway, Nord Road, and north of Lost Hills, affecting Kern County more than Fresno or Tulare counties.
