Mr and Mrs Manuel Rios announce the engagement of their daughter Natalie to Marcelino Cortez son of Mr and Mrs Jeronimo Cortez The wedding is set for February 28 at St Therese Church with Rev Patrick Breslin The bride attended Shafter High School and works for Drs Freedman Jacobus and Kodet Marcelino attended school in Corcoran and works at Food Town He is due to enter the Army soon.

Maple PTA honors D R Gwin for 13 years service

Maple area Scout groups and the PTA awarded D R Gwin an Honorary Life Membership for 13 years as Maple School driver and custodian. The program included Scout skits, band numbers, and awards for Cubs and Scouts, with remarks from officials and a Founders Day cake served afterward.

Junior Women Present $425 to March of Dimes

Junior Women’s Club raised four hundred twenty five dollars via a doll sale with wardrobe handmade by members. Gerri Neuman, daughter of Mr and Mrs Herb Neuman, won the doll at Mrs M L Wiedmann’s home. The group plans outfits for two Richland School eighth graders and donations to other charities. Next meeting February 25 at Mrs Robert Warren’s home. A square dance and backwards party are planned for March.

Five Eppley Sisters Guests at Ehrhorns

The five Eppley sisters, touring musicians from York Pennsylvania, performed last Saturday in Shafter Veterans Memorial Hall and had been house guests of Mr and Mrs Arthur Ehrhorn on Friday and Saturday. They also appeared in Wasco on Friday evening as part of a national tour.

Brock Receives Life Membership At Richland PTA Honors

Church Potluck Feeds End of Spanish Mission Week

St Therese Catholic Church hosts a Sunday 5 p.m. potluck at Veterans Memorial Hall for members and friends. Families bring casseroles or desserts to feed the gathered community. Teacher Returns To Class Work

Girls Honor Fathers at 4 H Box Social

Maple 4 H Club members entertained their fathers with a boxing social in the Walter Nicol barn. Boxes decorated in Valentine motifs held suppers for two while prizes included a china cup and saucer and a silky scarf. Prizes for games and relays were awarded to numerous couples and families.

Miss Peters and Mother Visit Bay Area During Break

Miss Phyllis Peters a senior at the University of California Los Angeles and her mother Mrs John J Peters Jr spent a mid term vacation in Berkeley as guests of Miss Mabel Main. They enjoyed a San Francisco shopping tour and Peters served as bridesmaid at a former sorority sister’s wedding. Main, longtime Wasco High School teacher, left Friday for Hawaii to visit relatives.
