Mrs George Isaac suffered a broken hip when she fell from the back porch on California street. She was taken to San Joaquin hospital in Bakersfield and her leg was set with a cast. Abe Strauss served as nurse and she rests comfortably, likely to be sent home next week, though bedfast for weeks more are feared.

Kern County will be allotted 76 689 acres for cotton under the new farm bill passed by the Senate this week and sent to the President. California’s total allotment is 384 962 acres. Last year Kern planted 122 000 acres. California 618 000. Acreage will be based on adjusted tillable acreage by county committees, with about one third of the 1937 crop in view, per available figures.
Kern county onion acreage for 1938 is lower than 1937, a shift revealed yesterday by official crop reports. Shafter leads the county in total onion area, with growers noting a cooler season and adjusted planting plans.
