Rasley signs with Boise State on full scholarship
Lacie Rasley of Shafter High signed a letter of intent to attend Boise State this fall with a 60 percent athletic and 40 percent academic scholarship. She chose Boise after visiting Boise State, noting a gut feeling and plans to study Civil Engineering. Rasley will compete in upcoming indoor events and USATF National Junior championships before moving to Idaho in August.

About 300 students from 66,000 countywide in grades four through eight competed in the 40th Kern County Oral Language Festival at Norris Middle School Bakersfield on February 12. Death of Lerdo inmate in shower leads to investigation
On February 10, 2011 at about 9:00 a.m. Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility inmate Yusuf H. Dean, 39, was found unresponsive in a shower area after being out of his cell. Detention deputy summoned medical aid and CPR was performed. Dean was transported to Bakersfield Heart Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives arrived to investigate.

Wasco Students Kick Off Relay for Life Fund Drive
Elementary pupils at Wasco and partner schools launch coin drives to support the American Cancer Society.
