Ernest Richard Howard radar man third class from Shafter California served on the USS TAZEWELL an assault troop transport in the Pacific. The ship landed troops at Hagushi Okinawa and conducted a fake landing off the southern part of the island. It stayed in operation area 36 days amid attacks and later carried occupation troops to Yokohama and veterans home.
