Shafter Council Honors Jill Ryan With Key to City
At a long public meeting this week City Mayor Don Zachary presented California Junior Miss Jill Ryan with the key to Shafter. He praised her support during the state contest in Santa Rosa and she vowed to serve as Shafter Junior Miss until May. New hires Duane Montoya and Denise Tolar were introduced. The council approved a school loading zone extension through the end of the 1986-87 year and tabled a non exclusive cable franchise with Warner Cable for review. A public hearing was set for zone code amendments on February 23. The city also approved buying a FMC street sweeper for 69721.50, with funding from prior years and keeping the old sweeper as backup.
