Flood control releases raised from Friant Dam near Millerton Lake
The Bureau of Reclamation increased Friant Dam releases from 2000 to 3000 cubic feet per second to lower Millerton Lake level and reserve capacity for spring snowmelt runoff. Lake held 389,400 acre feet. Kings River flow dropped 700 cfs into the San Joaquin. The combined 3700 cfs below Mendota pool remains within the 5000 cfs channel capacity. Farmers’ levee work has reduced river capacity, risking damage if higher releases are needed to prevent floods.
