The Union Congregational Church at 308 James Street lists 9:45 A. M. Sunday School with Walter E. Haag, 10:40 A. M. Junior Church with juniors’ sermon, 11:00 A. M. Regular worship with a minister’s sermon. Also 6:30 P. M. Christian Endeavor meeting led by president Mary Montgomery.
The Emmanuel Quartet of Dinuba California will lead services at the corner church with morning and evening programs. Rev J J Toews conducts a two week evangelistic campaign in San Jose, inviting all to study the Bible and seek prayer. Homes are scarce in Shafter but space is available for church members.
Sunday School at 10 A M with Peter Gershing as superintendent aims to curb juvenile delinquency. Worship at 11 A M with a call to reason with the Lord. 7 P M Young People’s Endeavor praised as a strong Sunday night option. Bible class upstairs taught by John J Unruh. 8 P M features a timely evening message. Wednesday night activities continued.
The First Baptist Church on Lordo Highway centers its week around Bible based activities led by Pastor E. M. Anderson. Sunday School at 9 45 A M includes all ages with a nursery. Morning Worship at 11 features choir and sermon Heritage of the Christian. Youth Fellowship at 6 30 P M and Evening Service at 7 30 A M with song and sermon Trust God.
Sunday School sessions start at 9 45 for all ages led by Supt Denver Middlebrook. Morning worship at 11 00 with a pastor message. N Y P S at 6 30 led by Mrs Berdie Osborn president. Evening evangelistic service at 7 30. Mid week prayer meeting Wednesday at 7 30. Come and bring a friend.
Wasco California branch of The Mother Church Santa Maria district holds Sunday 11 am services and 10 am Sunday School at Masonic Temple Seventh and Broadway. Evening services occur first Wednesday monthly at 8. Sermon quotes passages linking Spirit with God and cites Science and Health references.
The Church of Christ Women’s Club in Troy hosts services from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Minister Troy Brown and invites all residents to attend.
John W. Nelms 76 longtime Wasco resident died February 2 at Kern General Hospital Bakersfield Funeral services were held February 5 at the Janzen Chapel officiated by Elder R. Mr and Mrs Dan Loewen Mr and Mrs H H Nikkel and Mr and Mrs J S Balzer joined others in Fresno Sunday for the Pacific Bible Institute dedication, a community event marking the opening.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. North and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur North of Kansas paused in Shafter this week to visit Mrs. J. M. North’s brother, Rev. Chris Ummel. They were en route home after an extended tour through Oregon and California.
Sgt. Elmer Unruh and Mrs. J E Unruh of Shafter announce his honorable discharge from the Army Air Corps on Tuesday February 5 in Sacramento after three years of service. He was stationed in Mississippi prior to discharge.
E. E. Spangler received a $50 fine and W. W. Glass a $40 fine after being charged with battery for beating their wives. The report notes both men faced similar offenses and penalties on Saturday.
Grant A M M 3 c son of Mr and Mrs K Grant is transferred from Rhode Island to Florida near Miami. He comments he prefers the Florida weather to Rhode Island at this time of year.
