A Home Schooling Workshop sponsored by Kern County educators will be held at Bakersfield Christian Life Center on February 7 and 8. Gregg Harris of Christian Life Workshops Inc. will teach sessions on starting home schooling, discipline, instruction, and legal options. Ventriloquist Demo Engages 900 Plus at Richland
Veteran ventriloquist Bill Demar performed for over 900 pupils at Richland Primary School as part of National Schools Assemblies on January 29. His programs featured characters Happy Hoby Chuck Norwood the Troll Luke the Lion Feldon the Unspeakable Frog and Randy the King Raven. Demar the Master of Sight and Sound has a forty year career across the United States Europe the Caribbean and Canada including theater circuits TV radio and hotels. Teachers praised the educational value noting student language and story work while funding supporting the event came from Shafter Lions Club Richland Chevrolet and the Richland PTA.

St Mark's Episcopal Church in Shafter celebrates its 25th anniversary with a 10 am service guest preacher Father John Spear returning to lead the observance. The church traces its origin to the 1950s with a home service by Beatrice Gray and later phases of construction and clergy leadership culminating in 1985.
