Kern High teachers reach contract after closed session
KHSD teachers settle at a Friday morning closed session. Trustees to take final action Monday February 1. The six percent districtwide salary rise costs 1.2 million for 1981-1982. The contract includes a no strike clause and a three three committee to review staffing ratios and programs.

Man Arrested After High Speed Chase Near Shafter
Florencio Espericueta, 29, of 1701 East Cali, Bakersfield, was arrested last Wednesday after a high speed pursuit that started in rural Shafter and extended along Smiths Corner and Highway 99 to Bakersfield. He faces charges of felonious interference with an officer, assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, and driving under the influence.

Scout Council 1981 annual report highlights membership growth
The Southern Sierra Council reports 1981 end year totals of 3 099 Cub Scouts 1 994 Boy Scouts and 471 Explorers across 89 Cub Scout packs 98 Boy Scout troops and 28 Explorer Posts with 200 local organizations chartered. Over 1800 volunteers lead these units and 40 scouts attended the 1981 National Scout Jamboree in Virginia.
