Christmas reflections and a new industry for Shafter
A Christmas message from Shafter reflects on joy of being alive and health in 1960 61. It notes Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce excitement over a four million dollar Carbon Company plant to be built on Stockdale Highway eleven miles west of Bakersfield and likely seven miles south of Shafter. The plant may employ 50 to 75 trained staff and produce carbon products for tires with by products in plastics and detergents. The writer urges Shafter to welcome the industry and its benefits as it nears operation pages later.
