Innovative Student Leadership Program In Wasco District
Wasco Union Elementary School District adopts a district wide K 8 student leadership model. The English Learners Leadership Conference at Cal State Bakersfield drew about 60 participants including students teachers and principals. Students developed an Academic School Plan and presented to the Board with strong praise. A $3990 grant from Paramount Education Programs funds the program as it builds critical thinking public speaking and service.

Fire in Kern County saves one million in damage
Fire crews responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Highway 46 behind an auto parts store and an adjacent market. They deployed hoses, forced entry, and saved the interior and neighboring building. Fire controlled in about 30 minutes with $4,000 in damage, while about $1 million in structure and contents were saved. Cause under investigation. PG&E requested to shut power.
