Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Chimes Mish Funeral Home Shafter for Luther C Butcher 64 of 760 Meyer Lane who died December 15 in Bakersfield Hospital. Interment followed in Shafter Memorial Park cemetery. Born February 5 1902 in Avis Oklahoma he had lived in Shafter 24 years. He worked for Peter Channeson and Sons. Survivors include wife Dashie two sons B B Butcher Ventura and Luther Butcher USAF Viet Nam four daughters Frances Brown Rosalind Spriggs Vivian Butcher Oxnard Nettie Butcher Shafter one brother Nelson Butcher Texas seven sisters Nettie Doss Emily Rhoades Texas Jennie Williams Perry Chadwick Clara McElmurry Callie Lane and Bartlett Johnson Oklahoma and three grandchildren. The Shatter Methodist Church Morning Circle held a Christmas lunch on December 13 at 11 45 at Mrs Eyron Barbers home 307 Rosalee with co host Mrs Burt Jarrett. Rev Elwood Greer and eighteen attendees joined the event including Mrs Eloise Lowe who led the program. Elroy Deniston read the Matthew Christmas story and Mrs Wayne Anderson read a poem Others. Members donated gifts of blacks and little Golden Books for Saturday school and enjoyed a white elephant exchange.
