Stockton Births and Brawls of the Mother Lode Era
Stockton began as a trading post in 1845 named Tuleburg New Albany and then Stockton named for Commodore Robert Field Stockton. Lindsay Point recalls early settlers and the fatal Indian attack. The town boomed during the Gold Rush, became a key outfitting center, suffered a major 1851 fire, and housed a long‑running 1850 drug store. Joaquin Murrieta and the Pony Express legend mingle with regional lore.
