Shafter youths win medals at Fresno Karate meet
Four Shafter youngsters placed in a Fresno karate competition held December 3 at the Academy of Self Defense. Louis Maldonado Jr. won first in Green Belt Kumite, David Garcia took second, Cecilia Jiminez was second and Patty Garcia third in their divisions. The group trained with the Karate Institute of Bakersfield and will compete in January at Bakersfield Civic Auditorium.

Cub Scouts Decorate Tree for Christmas and Gift Drive
Cub Scout Pack 953 members decorate a Christmas tree from Neufeld's Christmas Tree Farm and prepare gifts for parents. They meet December 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Richland Primary School Cafetorium for a pot luck dinner with Santa possible. The group will donate the tree to Jewett Boy Scout Camp after the dinner and run a canned goods drive to aid the needy. contact Linda Bailey at 746-3776 for donations.
