Letter to the Editor on Bicentennial Memorial site and fire station
Kenny Foster argues in favor of keeping the Bicentennial Memorial on or near city property, criticizing moves to relocate it. He notes the public hearing on a new Sunset Street fire station and contends city ownership and firefighter stewardship would protect the memorial and city life and property. He identifies fellow Kern County Fire Department firefighters and lifelong Shafter residents as supportive.

City weighs undergrounding funds reallocation impact
Guinn warned the council that Shafter could lose nearly $500,000 through a funds reallocation affecting city projects. He noted multiple city sites are under study for undergrounding but face issues. Overhead lines owned by others or the city incur costs for undergrounding and new service lines must be paid by customers or the city. Guinn will return with a proposal if a path to using the funds is found. Ken Nelson Jr. had not commented by press deadline.
