Thomas described his recent vote against Assemblyman Willy Brown's measure ending illegality of consenting adult acts, citing removal of penalties for minor crimes involving persons under 18. He noted he was elected last November, defeating incumbent Ray Gonzales and had been an educator in the Kern area.
About 50 unit members of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary from Kern and Tulare Counties met at Bakersfield Post 26 on November 16. Mrs. Donna Balcombe presided and Cathy Morgan of Shafter attended. Shafter’s unit showed strong membership progress, luncheon was served, and Ethel Emory led the unit. Commander Balcombe announced his year officers. Earl Smith reported on Valley Forge trips and the Legion's Freedom Foundation sponsorship of students and teachers.
