Water Contract Approval Sought By Shafter-Wasco District
The Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District board plans a January district wide election to approve a 10.25 million dollar water distribution system. The California Securities Commission has approved the contract and the Bureau of Reclamation signaled approval, pending outcome of the vanhoe case. A February off year election is set for districts two and three with Peters and Loren Voth up for election.

Safe Driving Day urged in Shafter on December 15

Santa Arrives Saturday for Downtown Christmas Celebration
Santa Claus will visit Shafter on Saturday evening as Central Avenue lights up for a downtown Christmas gala. The Shafter high school band starts at 7 05 p.m. with the program at 7 20 p.m. Mayor Adolph Kirschenmann lights the display after the Rev. Waldo Wiebe speaks on The True Meaning of Christmas. The First Mennonite Church choir performs at 7 30 p.m. and candy filled bags await children. The giant Christmas tree was delivered from Greenhorn Mountain by local merchants and truck owner Jack Thompson funded transport.

Hold Funeral Service Friday for Car Victim
Funeral services are set for Adolph Schwartz 65 at Armstrong Mortuary 722 Fresno Avenue at 10 a.m. Friday with Pastor Stanley Huen officiating. Schwartz, an employee at Sportsman Bowling Alley, died when struck by a northbound sedan on Shafter Avenue near Madera Avenue Monday at 5 20 p.m. Driver Charles Burns 63 of Rt 1 Box 12 was not cited. Survived by wife Flora two sons Paul and Lloyd and four daughters Irene Wilson Velmar Schmidtke Barbara and Delores. Burial in Shafter Cemetery.
