Santa Barbara Savings and Loan launches an association-wide toy and canned food drive named Santa is Our First Name. In Shafter the collected items go to His Helping Hands to aid needy families, with 47 centers plus three corporate offices participating and a Jan 3 1989 prize drawing.

Fog Shuts SHS as Schedule Shifts and Events Planned
Fog delays and a recent cancellation hit Buttonwillow high school with 35 minute periods on delayed days and an early 2 40 dismissal. SHS plans a Winter Formal on February 4 at Veterans Hall from 7 30 to midnight costing 15 dollars for couples and 10 dollars for singles, with photos. Seniors take CAP tests and Bakersfield College placement in December. UC applications were due in November.

Central Valley Bikers host the fourth annual Delano Toys for Tots run at Richgrove Memorial Park on December 11 1988 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donation is one new unwrapped toy with a $5 value.
