Richland Trustees Elect Leaders and Review Proficiency Plan

Dogs Attack SHS Sheep at Ag Farm Near Thanksgiving
Police report two ewes killed and others severely injured at the Shafter High School agricultural facility. Owners wounded several dogs, a German shepherd and border collies, which fled. a pup was later destroyed. A border collie type dog and a reddish brown dog are being sought for information. Police urge keeping pets secured. A prior year sheep attack is noted.

Four Die In Shafter Auto Crashes Last Week
Four Shafter residents died in two separate traffic crashes last week. Billy Mills, 34, died at the scene Tuesday November 25 on Central Valley Highway near Bender after his pickup struck a truck driven by Lamont Mills. Mills apparently did not see the truck while traveling about 70 mph. George Reed, 36, was the other driver. Kern County Fire Units and Shafter Police responded. Three others from Shafter, Casimiro Nava 77 and Lupe and Elida Nava, were killed near Adelanto Thursday November 27 when their pickup collided with a tractor trailer on U.S. 395. Nava reportedly tried to make a U-turn when struck by the truck.

Shafter City Council approved water and sewer connection fee changes tied to monthly rates and discussed Prop 13 concerns. The meeting also funded DMV painting at 1,250 dollars and Stringham Park tree trimming at 800 dollars, plus a Dec 22 public hearing on land use frontage rules.
