SHS Wrestling Generals Begin 1971 72 Season With Inexperience
Shafter Generals start the 1971 72 wrestling season with an inexperienced squad. Four lettermen return: Joey Lopeteguy Franz Affentranger Steve Fuller and David Schultz plus junior Alan Cates who lettered as a freshman. Freshmen will fill many varsity spots including Joe Lopez the county champion as a seventh and eighth grader. The team faces depth issues at 191 and heavyweight positions with only Schultz and Torigiani as incumbents. Coach Darrell Fletcher expects Arvin to be the team to beat in the South Sequoia League and notes Taft Wasco and others. Four tournaments approach with the league meet in Shafter and the first match December 4 at South High IVs.
