New Speed Law Set For Highways In California
California enacts a new speed law effective Sept 13 raising open highway limit to 55 mph from 45 mph. School zones remain 15 mph and business districts 25 mph with allowances for 25 mph zones to extend and possibly raise to 35 or 45 mph after surveys. Local authorities gain similar zoning power and rules allow downward zoning when open highway traffic flows between 25 mph districts.
