Belridge Road Open To Travel Within 90 Days

Supervisor Stanley Abel informed The Press that Lerdo road will be finished and open to travel within 90 days. The west end is improved with culverts and a bridge remaining, timbers hauled to Taft for use. The road will bring Shafter 21 miles from Belridge oil fields, with Taft 28 miles away, and shorten coast routes by seven miles.

Wagner No 1 Completed By G P Friday

General Petroleum crews completed Wagner No 1 in the Shafter field at 11 500 feet with a four hour test showing 2763 barrels of 38 gravity oil and 1 500 000 cubic feet of gas. The well currently flows about 600 barrels daily and tests suggest greater capacity once flowdown issues clear.

Irrigation District Directors Begin Equalization Hearings

Members of the Shafter-Wasco Irrigation district board of directors will serve as a board of Equalization starting Monday August 29 at 10 am and for up to ten days to review and adjust assessments. Objectors may appear to justify changes in their cases. The assessment book was delivered to the district secretary and will be due after November 1 with delinquency the first Monday in June 1939. The assessment funds two years of operation since the district formed, to be met by the current levy.

Oil Rumors Return as Geophysical Crews Operate in Maple

Geophysical teams from Shell and Texaco are testing the Maple district with shot holes 100 to 200 feet deep along southwest to northeast lines. Farmers E. J. Thiessen John F. Penner and H. M. Shafter Mennonite Brethren Youths Attend Camp Revival

About 60 Shafter Mennonite Brethren youth will attend a revival conference at Kern county camp on Greenhorn Mountain. Bakersfield and Rosedale churches join in with leaders Johnnie Kliewer Ernest Siemens Edward Schellenberg Obe Isaac and Miss Rubena Shultz. The program begins Saturday at 6 pm with song service and a camp-fire prayer meeting follows a 6 30 supper. Camp rules require arrival registration and each participant to bring their own food.
