Woodstock memories and the changing face of rock activism
The Woodstock festival left a lasting impression on attendees with its drug fueled era and freewheeling spirit. It contrasted with today where artists command high ticket prices and investors bear the financial risk. The piece notes Baez's continued activism and recalls the festival's minimal mishaps, two deaths not tied to crowd control, and a critical view of its legacy as a symbol of youth and excess.

The A note travels up through history and countries
The piece discusses how concert A pitch has risen over centuries and varies by country. It notes that Mozart and Beethoven heard an A closer to today’s E, while modern tuning often reaches 440 Hz or higher. The issue draws support from figures like Pavarotti and Domingo, with debate in Italy about lowering the pitch to historical levels.
