Prospects Good for 1945 California Grapes and Crops
Prospects are good for a good grape crop with Thompson seedless harvest begun in Kern county and table varieties starting in other Southern California counties. Early peaches and apricot picking have begun or completed. July high temps cut dried fruit supply and may limit large yields. Tomatoes harvest has started with light expected yields. Potatoes green beans corn cauliflower celery and winter crops show strong activity across Southern California. Sot ton weather in July favored crops and grain yields may match 1944 despite lower meat ration points. Beef demand remains strong and livestock values stay high.
