Future Farmers mobilize ten million cans for war relief
The Future Farmers of America aims to contribute ten million canned foods via school community canneries overseen by vocational agriculture teachers. Chapters form Flying Squadrons to collect, process, pack, and ship cans to Europe through the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration.

Kern County farmland to shrink as farms grow larger
A Kern County farm trend shows fewer farmers and more land per farm. In 1930 there were about 2400 farmers and 165000 cultivated acres. Projections from the Bureau of Census indicate about a 2 percent drop in farm numbers but a 7.1 percent rise in production acreage by 1945, with average farm size increasing from 173 acres in 1940 to 190 acres.
