Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Mortimore and family spent a recent weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mortimore, Sr., in Santa Barbara.
Mr and Mrs A B Bristow and uncle Mr and Mrs Paul Channonson of Shafter are connected to Whittier residents the Bristows.
Landowners in the Semitropic area west of Shafter Wasco and Pond approve the formation of the Semitropic Water Storage District by a 25 to 1 margin on August 12, electing seven directors. Voter turnout reached about half of eligible voters while the district spans 225000 gross acres with current irrigated land at about 11 percent of California irrigation.
Mr and Mrs Robert Balzer and their three children from Hooker Oklahoma hosted a family picnic at Richland Park with visiting relatives including the Wesley Willard Leroy and Robert Janzens families of nearby towns. Also joining were Sam Heidebrecht and son and daughter in law from Los Angeles and relatives from Montana Inglewood Oklahoma City and Maple area. A pot-luck dinner followed and the group later gathered at the Willard Janzen home.

Pat Cornell returned from seven weeks of summer theater work at Columbia California where she acted with the College of the Pacific Repertory theater group at Fallon House Theater. The 22 member company featured COP students and staged six comedies plus backstage crews under DeMarcus Brown.
The Shafter Wasco Irrigation District Assessor reports completion of the 1958 assessment book and invites public inspection. A Board of Equalization will meet on September 2, 1958 at 4:00 p.m. at the district office corner Central Valley Highway and Kimberlina Road Kern County California to hear objections and may continue up to ten days excluding Sundays. Forty four of California's 58 counties will exhibit at the State Fair in Sacramento August 27 September 7.

Glenda Jacobus returned to Shafter with her parents after spending the previous week in Garden Grove. Richmond visitor Mrs Ollie Lawson of Richmond spent last week in Shafter at the home of Mr and Mrs Vernon Lawson. Mrs Lawson is Mr Lawson's mother.
