Rollins Case: Bakersfield Teen Face Sentencing Options
Rollins from Bakersfield, former state track and field champion, raised four thousand dollars while supporters claim four hundred ninety six thousand more is needed to finance an appeal. During the sentence hearing Mirian Rodriguez, the victim's mother, is expected to address the court as relatives often do before sentencing. Judge Lemacchi may call character witnesses and consider three options: seven years in CYA with release at 25, a longer term with seven years in CYA, or direct prison with parole only after eighteen years. Planned inquiry into additional findings by the judge has stretched the gap since the guilty verdict.
