City council approves street sweeping upgrades and raises
Shafter City Council approved renewing Barron Sweeping Service for two years with a 10 percent base increase to 5 205 95 per month and added two laborers for Central Avenue maintenance. The city transfers cleaning duties to Freedom Homes streets and plans to buy a small sweeper. Public employee raises of 4 1/2 percent this year and 2 1/2 percent next year were approved, contingent on revenue. Additional items include a one year audit contract and landscape and lighting renewals.
