A new Shafter project aims to serve and engage older adults through Living and Learning CLL. Planned programs include community service total wellness lifelong learning and gerontological research to boost activity and well being among seniors.
Incumbent Manuel Melero plans to retire from the Richland Lerd o School District board contest citing family, schooling and work priorities. With three seats open, incumbents Steve Skalisky and Lawrence Handel along with Deanna Rodriguez Root remain in the race as Melero becomes the first Hispanic board member to exit after a 1992 appointment.
The City of Shafter faced ongoing financial controversy with 18 lawsuits over years of fiscal disputes involving former RTC administrator Jim Anderberg and city officials including City Manager Wade McKinney and Chief Greg Greeson. Anderberg alleged improper ledgers and improper charges while DOJ consideration of warrants was dropped. Also noted are Chamber links and community chorus plans tied to CSUB.
Richland Local School District announces a focus on technology with high school library Internet access by fall and parental approval required. Primary School plans class sizes at 20 in first grade and reinforces phonics and home involvement. Registration on Aug 14 and first day Aug 26 include a minimum day.
