Detectives lack sufficient evidence in the death of 17 year old Maria Felita Madera Rodriguez whose body was found Aug. 2 along a canal near Lost Hills. A 17 year old Wasco youth detained for questioning was released as investigators remain tight lipped about how she was killed and whether a homicide charge can be pursued. The inquiry continues with no new details released by investigators or the coroner’s office.

The Shafter City Council unanimously approved annexing a new sewer plant site on Seventh Standard Road to solve regional waste disposal. The project, a two phase plan with NRSD and Kern County, involves a 16 mile trunk line, 8 million gallons per day capacity, and phased ownership sharing.
